HISTORY:

The B-24 Liberator was an American long-range heavy bomber and patrol aircraft and was also used to combat U-boats. The Liberator was designed and built by the American Consolidated Aircraft Corporation. Its task was to bomb remote cities, factories, bases and other enemy targets. With the entry of the US into World War II, production of the aircraft increased significantly. The B-24 Liberator was also used by the RAF during World War II. This aircraft was armed with 8 to 10 12.7mm machine guns and could carry up to 3.6 tons of bombs.

The B-24 aircraft of the Polish Armed Forces in the West was assigned to the 1586 Special Purpose Squadron of the RAF. Its crews flew over Western Europe and transported equipment, soldiers (Silent Unseen Paratroopers) and couriers to Poland, creating a bridge between the Polish Government in Exile and the occupied country. Liberator GR-U performed airdrops and assisted in flights to Poland. During one of these missions it was shot down over Yugoslavia.

Cichociemni Paratroopers of the Home Army were British-trained, elite soldiers drilled for special tasks.
