The aircraft carrier AKAGI was one of the most important ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. It was part of the 1st Air Fleet of the Japanese Navy. Akagi was one of six aircraft carriers that took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, which began the war in the Pacific. It also took part in the Battle of Midway, during which it was sunk in June 1942 by American aircraft. Its sinking was a key moment influencing the further course of war, unfavorably for Japan.
The ship model created by COBI was produced in a scale of 1:300. It consists of 3,610 elements and is 87cm long. Thanks to the use of the latest available elements and advanced construction techniques the model reflects the proportions of the historic ship as faithfully as possible and retains all its important features. A very interesting design element are two movable airplane elevators that you can raise and lower. The Akagi aircraft carrier has numerous moving parts like the propellers, rudders, rotating turrets and gun barrels that can be raised and lowered. You can place the 12 colorful mini planes with prints included in the set on the deck of the aircraft carrier, as well! The set also includes a very stable and aesthetic black display stand with two engraved plates: the ship's name, scale, individual LIMITED EDITION number and basic information about the ship.
The entire set is complemented by a figure of Captain Kichii Hasegawa, who commanded the ship, among others, during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. An attractive addition for history fans is a table with a brick reproduction of a map depicting the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was prepared by pilot Mituso Fuchida, who commanded the group that raided Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. During the action, he issued orders and messages over the radio, including the famous “TORA! TORA! TORA!”
We recommend this large model mainly to veteran collectors and fans of blocks who are not afraid of long hours of building! The ship does not require gluing or painting because its entire body and all elements consist of COBI construction blocks with beautiful prints. Thanks to the intuitive instructions divided into stages the construction process is simple and straight-forward. And due to containing over 3,500 elements, we guarantee a multi-hour construction process with a truly spectacular result!
